Ty Glas Station

This summer Transport for Wales will begin major upgrades at Ty Glas station to accommodate new Class 756 trains. This will mean better access, comfort and capacity for passengers travelling on the Coryton line.

These upgrades will include:

  • a 16-metre platform extension

  • a new floor for the level crossing

  • a new pathway that leads from the station to the crossing

So TfW can complete this work, the station and crossing will be closed from 19 July. They plan to complete the level crossing works during the school summer holidays, so it can reopen in time for September, and I will be pushing for this to happen.

The station should reopen in Spring 2026.

What are the aims of our Next Stop campaign?

  • Four trains an hour on the Coryton line

  • A full Sunday service

  • Extend weekday operating hours

In September 2024, along with Julie Morgan MS and Cardiff North Labour councillors, I committed to improving our public transport network. Our “Next Stop” campaign is in full swing and we have already secured better, and more frequent, train services on the Coryton Line. But there is still more to do.

I have met with Ken Skates MS, the Welsh Government Transport Secretary, to ensure Cardiff North is on the investment agenda and regularly meet with Transport for Wales to make the case for four trains an hour on the Coryton line.
