Sunday service on the Coryton Line
Today I received a letter from Ken Skates MS, the Cabinet Secretary for Transport in the Welsh Government.
In the letter, the Cabinet Secretary confirmed Transport for Wales’ plans to introduce a Sunday service on the Coryton Line this year.
“TfW are planning to operate Sunday services on the Coryton Line from the December timetable change.” — Ken Skates MS.
This is a major victory for our Next Stop campaign. Finally, passengers will have a seven-day rail service they can depend on.
In just two weeks, TfW will be rolling out the new tri-mode trains on the Coryton line. These Class 756 trains can run on battery, diesel or electric, which means a smoother travelling experience for passengers and less noise for those who live near the tracks.
The Cabinet Secretary joined me in welcoming the £445 million investment in Welsh railways from our UK Labour Government. This money is set to deliver crucial upgrades at Cardiff West Junction which would serve as an “important enabler” for more frequent services in Cardiff North.
I will be pushing for these upgrades at Cardiff West Junction so we can turn another #NextStop campaign aim into a reality – four trains an hour on the Coryton Line.
